8 October 2017

Nice winner yesterday with Blue Point winning at Ascot.  My other selection was a non runner.

I saw that Jimmy Fortune has decided to retire, he has had a lot of injuries over the last number of months with his back, and has found it difficult to get back on some of his former rides since returning, possibly that has had something to do with him deciding to retire.  He has been a very good jockey, riding over 1800 winners.  Good luck to him with whatever he does next.

Todays Free Tip is as follows:

Horse: Some Reign

Time: 2.40 Kelso

Current Odds: 6/1 EW

This horse ran well in bumper races last season, is well regarded by connections and looks the type to do well over hurdles.  Majority of the runners are running over obstacles for the first time, having ran in bumpers and on the flat.  My selection ran well in a bumper last season when second at Kelso, so has experience of the track.  The ground should be ok and at decent odds is a bit of value each way.  Beyond the Clouds has probably the best form in bumpers, and will be tough to beat, he is just a bit narrow at 11/10 for me.

7 October 2017

Some good racing today.  Hopefully the weather stays dry.

Todays Free Tips are as follows:

Horse: Blue Point

Time: 3.00 Ascot

Current Odds: 6/4

This horse comes here off a slightly below par effort behind Harry Angel last time.  I put that down to heavy ground, he had ran some very solid races prior to Haydock last time, winning and being placed in top level races.  Today he is down in grade, the race is not anywhere near the same competition wise.  I think he can win,  on what will be William Buick’s comeback ride from injury.  Danzeno his likely main threat has good course form at Ascot, but he may be better at 5f than 6f.

At Redcar:

Horse: Big Kitten

Time: 1.40 Redcar

Current Odds: 5/1 EW

He has the favourite Rich Identity to beat, which will not be easy.  But this horse ran a really good debut when second at Beverley.  He ran green and his inexperience that day cost him victory.  He needs to bring his “A” game today to win, as it will be tough, but at 5/1 is a bit of value.

6 October 2017

Nice winner yesterday with Motabassim winning at 7/1 at Lingfield.

Todays Free Tip is as follows:

Horse: Scoop The Pot

Time: 5.05 Fontwell

Current Odds: 6/4

I was taken with this horse when he won last time, even though he didn’t win by far (neck) he looked as though there was more to come.  He is obviously delicate, as he has been lightly raced.  The extra couple of furlongs today should be no problem and the ground looks fine for this gelding.  Mont Choisy is likely to be his main threat, but is prone to jumping errors, if his promising 7lb claimer can get him to jump well, he can be competitive.

Todays Free tip is as follows:

Horse: Motabassim

Time: 1.50 Lingfield

Current Odds: 11/2 EW

I think this is a competitive nursery, my selection is well drawn and has been improving with racing, its his first try on the all weather, but its the same for most of them.  At decent odds, I think each way is best.

Of his rivals, plenty with pieces of form Simply Breathless has good form, but is poorly drawn in 11, she will do well to be competitive from a wide draw.  Bajan Gold has shown promise and has been supported in the betting, a few others with chances.

I see  jockey Robert Havlin returns from his ban today, he rides Purser 2.25 Lingfield, and looks very likely to get off to a winning start,  at short odds he will be difficult to beat.  Beachwalk could be competitive in the same race at decent odds of around 8/1.

4 October 2017

Todays Free tip is as follows:

Horse: Black Sam Bella

Time: 2.10 Bangor

Current Odds: 2/1

This mare was a good second on her under rules debut for the stable.  She won a point to point previously.  The Dan Skelton horses are currently in good form.  The majority in this race have been off the track for a while, so fitness is taken on trust.  Big Penny is the likely main danger, she ran well on her hurdle debut and should run well again.  Tangly won a weak bumper on her latest run although you can’t do more than win, she has had a bit of market confidence this morning so a decent run is expected.

Todays Free tip is as follows:

Horse: City Gent

Time: 6.10 Kempton

Current Odds: 5/1 Each Way

I am backing this horse each way.  He has been improving with racing  and although it looks a competitive race this horse looks as though he has a solid chance from a good draw.  The biggest threat could be Lady Dancealot, she has a good draw and ran well at Ascot last time when second.

At this time of the year you can quite easily back something that runs a shocker on the flat, as horses start to go off the boil ! It is hard for trainers to keep horses on the go through the season, especially at a peak.  There are exception’s, Enable was an example on Sunday when winning in France, she is an exceptional filly and has a top trainer in John Gosden, she looks to be hard as nails, and still progressing.

Horse: Rococo Style

Time:   5.00 Stratford

Current Odds: 11/4

In what is a mares only bumper, a few winning mares are running with penalties.  My selection was well backed on debut when winning easily at Southwell,  and I think she will be hard to beat today even with her penalty.  Possible main threat could be Rouergate, she was second other debut and its interesting that Bryan Cooper comes over from Ireland to take the ride.  Of the rest, a few who have shown form in bumpers and point to point’s, and Your Wan is an unraced mare , that comes from a respected stable, she is also well related to a good animal in Synchronised.

1 October 2017

Looks as though a lot of rain around UK.  Epsom is heavy, so I will watch rather than have a bet at the meeting.  I don’t fancy anything strong at Musselburgh.  It is the big meeting in France at Chantilly, Enable is hot favourite to win the Prix de l’arc de Triomphe, she is very short odds and has the best form, especially over the trip (1m 4f).

However I won’t be backing her, she is the one they all have to beat, but  it has been a long season and has some strong opposition taking her on.   If Winter stays 1m 4f, she could be overpriced at 10/1 but its her first try over the distance, she is the choice of Ryan Moore,  so that has to be seen as a positive as he has won on the majority of the Aiden O’Brian horses previously, including a recent win on Capri in the St Leger at Doncaster, lots of horses with chances.

30 September 2017

Good winner yesterday with Beat The Bank winning at Newmarket by 5l.

Todays Free tip is as follows:

Horse: Sands Of Mali

Time: 2.55 Newmarket

Current Odds: 9/2 EW

I am backing this horse each way, as he is around 4/1-9/2.  It is a competitive race and my selection has to improve to win at Group 1 level today.  He was impressive in winning last time at York in a Group2, and has won on a soft surface before.   Unfortunately and Sioux Nation are both winners at the highest level previously.  If the ground was on the faster side than forecast today,  Sioux Nation would be a massive threat, he may well handle the ground but prefers a faster surface.  Unfortunately has a solid profile, he should handle the ground ok and is dangerous.  It is an open race with Beckford also a player as well.

In a later race,  4.10 Newmarket Altyn Orda looks to have a major chance of winning.  She ran well on debut to be second, and with improvement from that run, she can go one better,  at 6/4 she looks a fair price.

29 September 2017

Plenty of rain around, with the damp weather around,  the ground at racecourses takes much longer to dry in the Autumn, so I am selecting a horse who has form on an easy surface.

Todays Free Tip is as follows:

Horse: Beat The Bank

Time: 3.35 Newmarket

Current Odds: 5/2

In what looks an open looking Group 2 race, Beat The Bank comes here as an improving horse, he won well last time at Group 3 level, and acts with ground on the slow side, which it will be today if rain/ showers that are forecast at Newmarket fall.  Of his rivals, Zonderland has been lightly raced, he ran well last time when just pipped on the line, but his best form is on good or faster ground.  Sir John Lavery has good form and could well be the main threat, he seems to act on all sorts of ground, especially soft.  The interesting one is White Baron, he comes from South Africa, hard to evaluate how good he is, but his best form has been on good or better ground.  Mushtashry is dangerous, but has to prove he acts on ground with ease in it, he has tried twice before, and has shown below par efforts.
