A few races have already gone. At Longchamp today, the racing is highly competitive, with large fields in most of the remaining contests.

I quite like Cleod’or in the 2.05. He has been in fair form recently and should be well suited by this distance of almost 10 furlongs.

Aljdara in the 5.00 could be a sensible option at around 4/1 in a handicap where the draw could prove crucial. He is in stall 6 and should be well placed to secure a good position under Tony Piccone.

Late post today, I have been busy most of today. I have backed one later tonight at Marseille in France, Lamiya in the 7.15 race. She won last time on turf and tries this track and the all weather surface for the first time, which should not pose a great deal of concern. She is around 11/8 at the moment and faces a couple of dangers but I think she might be too much for them.

Early meeting tomorrow in France at Bordeaux Le Bouscat , with a mixed card of flat and jumps. I do like a couple but I will await prices in the morning.

Reflecting on the racing at Longchamp over the weekend, it was good to see Daryz lift the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe for the second time. He did not have the easiest of runs, having been shuffled back in the early stages, but he found his feet in the straight and ran out a ready winner in the end. He will probably be retired to stud now and should do well as a stallion.

Today in France, we have jump racing at Auteuil. In the 3.50, I like the likely favourite Lissadel, who is around 2/1 with some firms. He won on debut at this track over hurdles on September 12 and has leading claims of following up under a penalty.

A few races already ran at Longchamp today. I do like the chances of Aventure in the Prix De L’Opera Longines at 3.50 which is a Group 1 race for fillies. She has solid course form having won a Group 2 in May at this racecourse. She has drifted to around 11/8 which I think is a good price.

In the main event at 3.05 the Prix De L’Arc De Triomphe. I think it is hard to look past Daryz, he won this race last year and has looked better than ever this year. I think Thundering On could run a good race, although the drying ground has made it more favourable for a good few of her rivals.

2 October 2026

Looking ahead to the meeting at Longchamp tomorrow and Sunday, there is top-class racing across two days, with 19 races in total. On Saturday, the 12.23 is a Group 2 over 1 mile and 7 furlongs. Pierre Bonard will be looking to restore his reputation after finishing unplaced in the St Leger at Doncaster last month. He faces two serious threats in Victoire Magique and Space Waltz. Of the trio, Space Waltz appeals most to me. He finished second to Victoire Magique over this course and distance in a Group 3 last time and now meets his old rival on 3lb better terms.

The 12.58 is a Group 2 over 1 mile and 2 furlongs. Phineas has improved steadily throughout the year, winning four races in succession, and looks the one to beat. Wimbledon Hawkeye and Distant Storm provide strong opposition, but Phineas was particularly impressive when landing a Group 3 on his latest start and sets the standard.

I will do an update on Sunday with a few selections.
