Update: 7.57 pm

If you backed Jungle Room who just finished third at Chelmsford. An interesting ride !! I did think that the horse looked to me as though he was given a very tender ride, he made up a lot of ground in the straight , having been last as they turned into the straight with 2 furlongs to go, watch this horse in the future, I would not be surprised if the stewards look at the jockeys riding.  Kion the one I said he had toto beat, won quite well, I did have a saver on him when he drifted to 9/4.  The horse I was going to back in the later race looks to me as though its better watched than backing, more tomorrow.

I was disappointed with both jockeys last night who rode Warburton and Mandalayan at Kempton. I thought Warburton should definitely of won, he was beaten a head, his jockey William Buick did not take advantage of a good start and a good draw in the early part of the race, Adam Kirby on the winner, rode a good race to win, he is a very good rider, his weight issues are his biggest problem as a jockey. For me William Buick is slightly over rated, he makes a fair few of mistakes, including last night !

As for today, it looks a bit difficult at a lot of the meetings, soon the turf season gets under way on the flat, hopefully the weather will get better as well.

I have backed this horse without the favourite, he showed promise last year and looked like a horse to follow as he gets older, he has plenty of pace for 6f, and I think he has Kion to beat and he wins, I just thought without Kion in the bet , evens was the way to go. Of rivals, Kion is out of the equation, so Kodaic  Express looks the main threat, Pesky Wabbit is an unknown , and Jaalbat could be more of a threat.

I will very likely do a late update this evening after my selection runs, with a horse in a late race that is of interest.

I am still keen on Warburton 6.45 Kempton, he is still around 6/4 with most firms, their has been money for Mozzafiato in the race, he is around 3/1, he is obviously expected to improve a lot from his debut run.  I am going to back another horse at Kempton.

Horse: Mandalayan

Time: 6.15 Kempton

Current Odds: 9/4

This horse has a penalty for a win last time, I think he will beat Dark Crocodile again, he was second when they met last time.  A decent draw and the same jockey who rode him when he won is a good stat, plus he won going away last time, he really quickened up well to win that day, with a good bit of improvement he can follow up today.  Of rivals, West Wing is having his first run, from a yard that do not have them fully tuned up on debut, he is the unknown quantity, I think he will be in the mix, but Dark Crocodile could be the one to give Mandalayan the most to do, although I can’t see him beating my selection.

Really good day today, the double I advised, saw Good Boy Bobby winning at Wetherby and Velvet Vision win at Newcastle, she drifted to 11/2, a fantastic price as the double also paid almost 9/1 !

I am advising a horse that runs tomorrow, it’s again on the all weather surface, so no real ground changes to worry about.

Wednesdays tip is as follows:

Horse: Warburton

Time: 6:45 Kempton

Current Odds: 13/8

This horse drops back to 1 mile tomorrow, he ran over 9f plus on debut, he was fancied to go close that day, and although he ran well, I think he could well relish the trip of 1 mile.  He is well drawn, and I would think will be ridden handy to the lead, he should be good enough to win tomorrow.  Of rivals, Intense Pleasure has shown fair form, he was a fair second last time, beaten by a useful horse that day, he looks the main threat, Passing Clouds is one that has shown form at the track, he is better than his last run, which was a tame effort.

I will do an update tomorrow around 11am, possibly a horse running that could be worth an investment.

My selection Velvet Vision at Newcastle is still around 2/1 with most firms, hopefully she can do the business.

Horse: Good Boy Bobby

Time: 5:15 Wetherby

Current Odds:8/15

I would not normally back this horse because of the price, but I have put him in a double   as well as backing Velvet Vision on her own, it makes it almost a 4/1 double.  I think this horse is a penalty kick, he tends to pull hard, which is the only concern, as his form is solid,  and he should win this before possibly having a crack at the good bumper races at Aintree or Punchestown, he has looked well above average in his three runs, slight below par last time, where he came from a long way back to be fourth in very testing ground, although it was a good race that day, this is a big drop in class.

Good winner earlier today, Beautiful Morning advised at evens was heavily backed into 4/6, she won by only a head, but was well on top at the line.

I am putiing a tip on this evening, it is on the all weather surface at Newcastle, so ground changes are not a major concern.

Horse: Velvet Vision

I thought this filly ran really well on debut when second  at the track over 1 mile.  She should be ok with the extra 2f tomorrow, as she was running on well on her last run.  Her trainer does not have his horses fully tuned on debut, I think she will improve a lot for that run, and take all the beating tomorrow.  Her jockey Paul Mulrennan rode her last time, so will know what to expect of her, he was very easy on her on debut, which is important for any horse having their first run, they need to have a good experience. She can win this race.  Of rivals, Bobby K has experience, is a winner and ran well last time, at the weights I think my selection will be too good, Arch Gold comes from a strong yard, and can improve from his last run, he has a chance of being in the mix.

I will do an update tomorrow before 11am, as I could well have another horse worth backing.

Only Lingfield goes ahead on the all weather track today.  Snow falling here in Guernsey, it’s very light.

A good winner twice already. I think this filly can win again, she has a 9lb penalty which is eased by her riders 5lb claim, she is normally ridden from a hold up position, so hopefully her rider can get a bit of cover in this small field and finish the race off strongly as she has done in her last two runs.  Of rivals, Sportswriter is the only real danger I think, he ran well last time, he has to run to a high 80’s mark to win,  he could well end up in that bracket, but my selection is also still improving , her form is much better than his on what they have shown so far.

Meetings abandoned today in the U.K. I understand one meeting in Ireland may go ahead at Limerick.  No tip today, hopefully the bleak weather will not disrupt to much racing next week.

Cheltenham reflection:

It was a non profitable week at Cheltenham, it’s always difficult.  Good to see Native River win the Gold Cup, I had fancied Might Bite since his win on Boxing Day, but ended up backing Our Duke due to the very soft ground, it was probably a race that should of been watched without having a bet. I think if the first and second meet at Aintree on good ground, Might Bite could turn the tables, he was outstayed by Native River up the hill at Cheltenham.

I am currently in Newmarket visiting family and friends, just looked outside to see snow on the ground ! Hopefully racing will go ahead today at all the meetings.

Night Story was a good winner yesterday, he looks a nice horse.  My other selection Our Duke pulled up in the Gold Cup, he was never travelling well, hopefully he will be ok. Today looks like any other Saturday, difficult to sort through the races and find a winner.

A winner last time of a match race, where his sole rival departed very early on, he jumped well in the main, and looks as though he is still a work in progress.  On his first run over fences he was a decent third to Benatar, who was third in a big race this week at Cheltenham, so solid form, regular jockey on top and he has won on a right handed track before, hopefully the ground does not get any softer, he will handle it, but he doesn’t really want it borderline heavy to be seen at his best, a few others also have better form on drier ground. Of rivals, Vocaliser has been in good form all winter, he will be dangerous again today, Kayf Blanco has also been running well , beaten only a neck last time at the track, he has not won a race though, for a long time.

Nice bit of profit yesterday with Supasundae backed each way at 9/1 finishing second, he was just outstayed by the winner, to be honest the slow gallop probably suited him and the winner, who is an ex useful performer of the flat.

A good second on debut, I think this horse can win today, he will improve and should be OK over the extra 2f today. He has eased in price, so a tiny bit of value. He has a good jockey riding, who rides this track well.  Of rivals, Dalileo has useful form from a two year old, he could be the one to beat.  Yabaas  has a 4lb penalty for being a winner, the horse that beat him, won again recently.  I just think my selection will beat him in receipt of 4lb.

Time: 3:30 Cheltenham

Current odds: 9/2 EW

I am backing this horse each way.  It is an open race, but this horse will act on the ground , has won over various trips (Up to 3m 5f) , he won a good prep race last time, beating a vey useful horse, who won a big race recently.  Solid chance ew.  Of rivals, Might Bite is not as good on slow soft ground, he is still a threat, but he could get taken on by Native River, which may set the race up for a horse ridden with patience, who stays well.
