With soft ground at Carlisle I am not getting too involved there. Although I do think Lexington Knight has been found a good opportunity of breaking his maiden 3.55. He has solid form, and should be ok on the ground.

In France at Chantilly, In Crowd 2.05 – was impressive on debut, and has a strong chance of winning again here. Villa Darya 2.35 is around 7/1, she won and then ran a solid third, she would be my pick each way at those odds.

A massive gamble on four horses trained by Iain Jardine today, 3 at Carlisle and an unraced two year old Wiganese 3.40. I hope he can get all four, but it’s a big ask, Tomily sets the ball rolling at 1.35 Carlisle. I know Iain well, he can certainly train, he has expressed that it is not his money that has been behind the bets as some where around double figures last night.

Racing at York has a couple of races left. Albahr 4.15 is well thought of, if he can overcome his inexperience he could be the one to beat. In France at Longchamp, In Swoop 5.00 is short odds to win. He has a slight weight pull with Sublimis who beat her last time, so it will be a good race to watch, with two classy horses lining up. I also like Sunrise Valley 6.05 Newmarket, who was second on her debut and that was against both sexes. With this a fillies race only, she is the one to beat.

At Leopardstown today, it may pay to follow the Ballydoyle horses. Jeroboam 1.45 could set the ball rolling in the maiden. He has to overcome a difficult draw from stall 10, but his main threat has stall 11, so with his experience I think he can shade it from Eaglefield. Later at 3.15 Bolshoi Ballet faces Mac Swiney in a good Derby trial, it will be a good race, with his recent run, the former should have the edge.

At Ludlow Byzantine Empire was an eyecatcher on his debut over hurdles at Newbury. He should come forward for that run and if handling the tricky track should get the better of Olympic Conquer, who has course experience and is the horse to beat.

A good winner advised for my subscribers yesterday. Japan was advised at 15/8 yesterday, he was returned at 13/8. Running out a cosy victory for Ryan Moore in the 3.15 Chester.

The ground at Chester today is likely to ride a bit ‘tacky’ with drying conditions. Armory 2.15 should be too good for his rivals, and will be ok with underfoot conditions.

I do like the look of Amazonian Dream 5.00 Nottingham. A good second on his debut at Newbury, with that experience he can go one better today.

At Ascot Cadeau D’Or 1.20 has run well at the track previously, and has a decent chance of winning the apprentice handicap for his very capable rider Josh Bryan.

With a few races down at Chester, the ground has a fair bit of give in it. So looking for something that will handle give in the ground is a must. I do think Immelmann 4.15 could well run well, around 6/1 he would be my pick each way, he has plenty of stamina in his pedigree and he should handle the ground conditions ok.

Bucks Boggle 4.35 Kelso has a big chance of winning the final race on the card. He ran very well on debut behind a useful horse and can pay for his long trip from England to Scotland.

Today racing looks pretty difficult trying to find winners. If looking to back something later at an each way price, Heavenly Rose 8.00 Wolverhampton could be worth an interest at around 6/1. She was behind the favourite Far Hope on debut, when the latter won at Newbury. With a bit of improvement and a good draw, she has a fair chance of shaking up the favourite tonight.

Earlier in the day at Fakenham at 2.10, Ar Mest drops into a seller for the first time. He has dropped down the weights, wears cheekpieces for the first time and should be good enough to win this. His main rival is Ferrobin who has a definite chance also, but I expect the former to come out on top.

Today see’s the first 3 year old colts classic at Newmarket. The 2,000 Guineas over the straight Rowley mile, which will be ran on ground on the fast side of good. No rain has fallen in Newmarket of late, but the track is well maintained, so it will be a good surface with no ‘jar’ in the ground. It is wide open this year. Battleground the mount of Frankie Dettori is seen as the second string for the Ballydoyle team. I think he has a good chance of being in the mix. One Ruler is a course winner over the mile, he is another I think has a good chance of being in the mix at the business end, he also is the second string for Godolphin. It will be a pointer to the Derby, ran in the first week of June, as it is always regarded as the best trial for that race.

I do think later in the card Crossford 5.25 has a good chance of winning the last race of the day. He ran well at the track recently, and has the right profile for this race, risen 3lb for that run, he can progress and beat likely main threat Magical Land.

Hopefully followers may of took my advise and backed Mohaafeth 4.45 Newmarket yesterday. He stayed on strongly to win under Jim Crowley. My earlier advised bet Naval Crown was a shade unlucky to get caught in the last 50 yards or so, a drift off the rail let the winner sneak through on the inside, jockey William Buick will not like to see his error, as it cost him the race, no jockey likes letting someone up the ‘inner’ at any stage of a race, unless all chance is gone.

Today has some good races at Newmarket. The Craven Stakes at 3.35, is normally a good guide for the colts classic the 2,000 Guineas in the first week of May. Master Of Seas was second recently to Naval Crown in Dubai, he needs to relax a bit better in his races, but has solid claims here. Oxted 3.00 looks a good thing, he is a group 1 winner, so a listed race should be a formality today.

At Newcastle 7.25 My Swallow has the excellent Richard Kingscote riding him, and has a good chance of winning again, trainer Sir Michael Stoute uses Kingscote a lot of late, and the combination have been getting plenty of winners.

Some hotly contested races today at Newmarket on the flat. Naval Crown 2.25 was a recent winner in Dubai over 1m. Today he drops back to 7f for a competitive handicap, but I think he is the one to beat. Later in the card at 4.45 Mohaafeth races on grass after his win on the all weather at Lingfield, he was quite impressive that day, and could well win again today.

With Harry Skelton bagging 3 winners yesterday at Southwell, he has gone 2 clear of rival Brian Hughes in the battle to be champion jump jockey 20/21. Skelton has some good rides today at Cheltenham, and starts with a favourite at 1.30, although I would not be surprised to see that one get beat. I do think Oakley 5.00 has solid each way claims, he has good form on ground when soft and also good, so he will be fine today. His run at Ascot in December was ok, off a break, he can give a good account of himself here.

Really good to see the Grand National won by a lady jockey for the first time. Rachel Blackmore has been riding really well for many years, and after being the leading rider at the Cheltenham Festival in March, winning on Minella Times just caps a great season for her, and also her boss Henry de Bromhead, who trained the winner and the second on Saturday.

On to todays cards. With drying ground conditions, the ground at Huntingdon should be good. Stylish Dancer would be my idea of the winner of the 4.00. She tackles fences for the second time, and despite a large rise in the weights, she was impressive when winning last time, and proven she acts going right handed, having won at Hereford previously over the smaller obstacles. The last race on the card is a bumper, I thought Shantou’s Melody may be too good for his rivals in that.

On the level at Redcar, Super Over 2.20 has a good chance of winning. A good second on debut,at Newcastle on an artificial surface, the grass today should pose no problem, and it is a race that does not look overly strong on the ones that have ran before. So should get off the mark.

A good week ahead, with the first day of Newmarket tomorrow, a number of trial races this week for the ‘classic’s’,so changes in the betting for the big two guineas races for the three year old colts and fillies coming up in a few weeks very likely.
