11 December 2021

Having just seen the 12.05 at Cheltenham, I think the majority of jockeys who rode in it, need to watch the race again. The winner Interne De Sivola was gifted the lead and the race !
He set very slow fractions under Chester Williams, who rode the other riders too sleep, possibly the best horse in it, but a lot of the horses behind him, where just ridden badly. A large number of todays jockeys seem to not ride the race to suit their horse, rather they ride the horse to suit the race ! Which is just bad judgement and poor race riding. I personally think we lack really top class jockeys these days, both flat and jumping. Too many ride ’one dimesional’ and I think Brian Hughes is way ahead of the rest, he is not afraid to change tactics, and will be champion jump rider again, barring accidents.

A typical Saturday, lots of difficult races to work out. Porticello was a good winner on his hurdles debut in the UK. He would be my choice in the 2.40 Doncaster, although King’s Salute will not make it easy for him.

I hope My Drogo 12.40 Cheltenham can get a win, he is by far the best horse in the race, and was really unfortunate to fall on his debut over fences, he looks a good thing.

A good bit if rain around today. So it will be likely the ground at both jump meetings will be on the slower side. At Uttoxeter 3.30, Hidor de Bersey has a good chance of going one better than his decent second about a month ago at Carlisle. He was not able to match the strong finish of Nurse Susan that day when second. But she has won well since, and it was a credible run that day. Anyharminasking looks like the one to beat.

Southwell has a lot of runners, with a changed surface of Tapeta today, with the previous surface of fibresand being dispersed with. Yantari 7.00 has given ground away on his two runs so far, if he starts well he will take a bit of beating, as i thought James Doyle was at fault, when he got racing a bit too early on his latest run at Wolverhampton, when a decent third, considering he blew the start as well. It was a fair effort to be third, collared in the latter stages of that race. He would be my choice in the 7f race.

Hopefully a few followers backed my advised selection yesterday. Saleymm 4.35 Wolverhampton was a facile winner under James Doyle. Already a good winner advised for my subscribers, Jonbon was advised to back at 5/4 earlier today, he was heavily supported into 10/11 in the 1.15 Newbury. An armchair ride for Aiden Coleman, who eventually decided to let this horse use his stride after jumping 3 hurdles, and won without any fuss by 6 lengths, he is a horse to follow.

Looking at the rest of today, I have backed Pastel Power 4.45 Chelmsford, he was 5/4 earlier this morning. I thought his debut was a decent effort when third, and with the excellent Richard Kingscote on top, he will do for me.

Watching a good bit of racing today. The ride of Aiden Murphy on Duke Of Rockingham was very average in the 1: 45 Lingfield. He stayed on strongly from the final flight to be second, given a lot to do by Coleman.

A very similar ride by Connar Brace in the 2.47 race, he must of thought his mount was going to sprout wings in the straight, as he gave Speech Bubble an impossible task, I have absolutely no idea what was going through his mind after jumping the fourth hurdle, only Connar does, as he kept taking a ”pull” on the mare, when the leaders were clearly poaching a lead, of which he should of been aware, the mare ran on well from the last flight, and I believe would of won if ridden forward mid way through the race, and a bit more thought from her rider. I do think both horses are worth following, as both are winners without a penalty.

I do like the look of Saleymm 4:35 Wolverhampton, he should win again under James Doyle.

Halfway through most of the racing today. I do like Galifa 4:20 Deauville, the daughter of Frankel has a good chance to finally get off the mark today. She tries the all weather surface, after an unlucky run last time. If she is ridden forward, she will be hard to beat.

16 November 2021

Looking at todays race meetings, the ground has been drying out of late. Kyntara 3:15 Lingfield, was really impressive when he won a bumper back in February on heavy ground. He missed a race the other day, possibly connections thought the ground was too lively for him. With the ground today described as good to soft, he will be short odds, but should win. In France at Saint Cloud, Midtown 1:25 should be more than good enough to win the listed event, he was a good winner last time.

Last night at the first day of the Breeders Cup meeting at Del Mar, a really strange incident happened in the last race on the card. Albahar the mount of Frankie Dettori got upset in the stalls, he ended up on the floor and looked like he kicked the horse beside him in stall 3, the stall handlers released the favourite Modern Games from his stall at the front, then released the other horses who were already in the stalls. Albahar was withdrawn, and then it was announced that Modern Games was also scratched, as the vets checked out the other runners walking around, it was then announced that Modern Games was going to run ! The runners then started loading, it was then announced that Modern Games from an American betting market, that all stakes on the horse would be returned, and it was too late to revise the market, absolutely bizzare situation, as the horse then wins the race. I believe most english bookmakers paid out on him, but also the second horse as well.

On to today, very difficult as normally is on a Saturday. I did think Kennet 2.55 Chelmsford had a decent opportunity of getting off the mark today, its his first try in a handicap, and he has improved with each race.

At Del Mar this evening Tarnawa 11.40 is not well drawn, but she is very classy, and if she gets a bit of luck, she would be my pick in the 12f grass race, she won the race last year, although better drawn that day, but she has had a light campaign, and handles quick ground ok.

4 November 2021

Hopefully my followers will of backed the two horses I advised yesterday. Suffrajet 12.40 was a game winner under Jason Hart, as I mentioned her experience of having had a run was important on the run to the line, prevailing by a nose. Later at Nottingham, Walk Of Stars 1.40 was an easy winner, he handles the soft ground well, and is one to follow closely, as he ran green and had a fair bit left in locker at the line.

Today has some good races to look at. I just watched the opener at Ludlow at 12.30, with Cup Of Coffee getting the better of odds on favourite Rainyday Woman. I did think Bryony Frost was guilty of giving a lot of ground away on the second horse. She had her whip in the wrong hand throughout the contest, her mount was jumping left, and Bryony for some unknown reason had her whip in her right hand, not ideal on a right handed track! I would think her trainer Paul Nicholls would be non too pleased with what he saw, as the horse drifted left up the run in from the last, giving away ground, and was beaten only just over 1 length at the line.

I do think Over The Rules 1.05 Ludlow can follow up from his win a few days ago, its not a strong race and he jumped well on his debut over the bigger obstacles, he would be my pick on a difficult day, in trying to find a winner or two !

3 November 2021

Todays meeting at Nottingham has three maiden races for two year olds. With the ground looking to be on the soft side, experience and proven form could make the difference. Suffrajet 12.40 has both ingredients, she was a good second at Doncaster 12 days ago, when she just lost out in the latter stages of that race, with that run under her belt- she would be my choice in this fillies maiden over just over 1 mile. Walk Of Stars 1.40 was a staying on third at Newmarket 14 days ago, that was on soft ground, and although he is very short in the betting, he should have enough to beat his rivals, at 4/6 – he is one for the doubles and trebles !

23 October 2021

Todays ground at Doncaster has been riding on the soft side. Plenty of prize money on offer, and some really nice horses running at the meeting.
Just finished watching the 3.15 at Doncaster, the final Group 1 of the british flat season. Luxembourg stayed on well to win under Ryan Moore, he looks a really decent colt, already favourite for next years Derby at Epsom.

I did think Bayside Boy was a little unlucky in his run, he had to switch twice, and was staying on well to be third, only a nose behind the second Sissoko. I would think David Egan, rider of Bayside Boy will watch the replay a few times, as it was not his finest hour. A talented rider, who still has a fair bit to learn, as I thought he gave Mishriff a very average ride recently at Ascot.

I was really taken with Spirit Catcher on his debut, he won very well. He reverts to the all weather today 4.59 Chelmsford. He will be short odds, but I think he will be hard to beat.
