4 October 2018

Late post today.  I did not get involved at Ascot today, it looked really tough trying to find one that stood out, to be honest I was tempted to back Mekong, he was a good second.  The winner Ghostwatch has done everything right on the track since being gelded, he really battles when under pressure.

A few interesting races tonight at Wolverhampton and Dundalk. A lot of market support for Great Beyond 7:45 at Wolverhampton, he bolted up on his only all weather previous run, if I was having a bet in it, Grooveman at 11/2 is more appealing each way.  I will try to put an each way bet on tomorrow, something with value.  Some great racing, the big race on Sunday the Arc in which Enable is a short priced favourite, looks set for decent ground.  She must be hard to beat, at evens I am watching, Waldgeist needs a drop of rain, he is 13/2 now, he was 10/1 earlier in the week when I mentioned him as my each way interest bet.

4 October 2018

A few withdrawn at Warwick today, with the 3:15 now a walk over for Desirable Court.  A bit of compensation for the owner Craig Buckingham , who had the inconvenience of travelling to Nottingham yesterday, and find his horse withdrawn by the starter, who made a mistake when another runner caused problems in the stalls, both were non starters , as the stewards did not allow Magic Pulse to run, the starter apparently informed the weighing room the wrong horse number, and was still not allowed to run when authorities realised the administrative error !

Todays other race meetings have a lot of competitive racing, although depleted fields at Warwick.  A couple of interesting races at Chelmsford City tonight.  The 6:15 is for fillies over 7f,  Quasar ran well on her first run, she could be the one to beat.

At this time of year the 3 year old and upwards maidens are sometimes pretty weak. The 2:20 and 2:55 look average, unless one of the unraced ones are decent, they will be not be hard to win.

Good luck with having a bet.

3 October 2018

The last meeting of the season for Salisbury today.  Good conditions for racing,  finding winners is not easy , but notebooks are a must, as lots of maiden races that will throw up future winners.  Bangor has some okay fields,  Lovato carries top weight in the handicap hurdle at 4:30pm.  He ran a really good race last time at Stratford, it will not take much improvement to go one better today, he has a favourites chance.

At Nottingham the card starts at 1:30.  A few nice types over the minimum trip of 5f, it looks a race where experience may be of use, a fair amount of cash around for the unraced Exalted Angel, he has a good pedigree.

Weekend racing:

The dry forecast over the next few days including in France for the weekend big meeting may be more advantageous to filly Enable who is currently 5/4 for the Arc De Triopmhe on Sunday, she will be trying to win it for the second time.  I will not be backing against her, if any rain does arrive, it would help the chances of Waldgeist, he is around 10/1, but he is a horse who does like a bit of juice underfoot.

2 October 2018

Another good Winner yesterday for my subscribers.  I advised Qaroun 7.45 Kempton at 11/2 yesterday, he was heavily backed into 7/2 before winning under a good ride from Andrea Atzeni.  I have been watching a bit of todays racing.  Not had a bet as yet, one I quite like at Southwell, the card at Kempton looks very difficult tonight.

I see that Donacha O’Brian has more or less given up on breaking older brother Joseph’s win record of 126 when he was champion jockey in Ireland.  He has just got to a 100, some feat for a rider who struggles with his weight, as did Joseph.  Not sure that he will ride on the flat much longer, and he has no desire to ride over jumps, so it won’t last for many years.

More later.

1 October 2018

Late post today.  I have been travelling back to Guernsey,  so not seen any racing as yet.  Another good month during September, with an Overall profit of 15.7 points for the month.  Looking forward to trying to keep things going during October, a lot of horses do start to lose form when the weather changes, plus the ground does not get to firm with the Autumn dew in the morning. A couple of horses entered in the early part of the week I have been waiting for, so I hope the rain stays away !

Kempton Park has some difficult handicaps to work out tonight,  a couple that look of interest running in later races.

It was nice to catch up with a few old friends in Newmarket and at Market Rasen, over the last few days.   I did not have much time to spend  with a couple of old weighing room colleagues as they were working on Saturday, Colin Hawkins and Russ Garrity are now Starters, both of them were at the races on Saturday. It is a long time since I seen either of them, both were good jockeys, and said they were enjoying their new roles.

It is good that the BHA are employing former jockeys, a large number now work as stipendary stewards, Jockey coaches and Starters. A jockeys career is not that long, especially a jump riders, a large number retire in their thirties, a lot due to injury,  being retrained in some other profession takes time, although the injured jockeys fund do help a lot with course costs for ex riders.

30 September 2018

A nice Winner for my my subscribers yesterday.  Cap Francais advised at 7/2 was a ready winner at Haydock 2:40.  He returned at 3/1, he looks a nice progressive type.

Ten Sovereigns was a good winner at Newmarket in the 6f Group 1.  Both him and the second horse Jash look very useful,  not totally convinced they will end up as milers, as both have lots of speed. The 2,000 guineas has been mentioned for both of them for next year.

I had a good day at Market Rasen yesterday, although Linganno Felice ran very flat,  I  think what I thought may happen did, they went a bit too fast in the early half of the race, the three including him that made the early running faded from the third last, it was disappointing, but that is racing sometimes.

Not really found anything today as yet that looks worth a bet.

29 September 2018

Really good racing today at Newmarket.  The bet365 Cambridgeshire Handicap always takes a bit of winning.  Usually a horse layed out for the race, or one that is emerging into a Group race performer. My each way tip is Kenya , he is around 12/1 with most firms.  Comes from a good yard and has two solid runs of late, his latest second in a Group 2 was a good run, prior to that he won the Irish Cambridgeshire.  It is a very open race, Danceteria is another who is improving and should be in the mix.

The 3:00 at Newmarket is a race that needs to be seen, some of the best two year olds from Ireland in Ten Sovereigns and Sergei Prokofiev and Jash and Emaraaty Ana trained in the UK.  Ten Sovereigns looked really good on his last start, he will be hard to beat, but at 4/6, I will watch, as he has strong dangers.

I am heading to Market Rasen today, Linganno Felice runs in the 4:00.  Hopefully he will be in the mix, he likes the track and ground.  The biggest issue today is there are 3 horses that are front runners, I hope they don’t take each other on too much and set the race up for something that is ridden with a bit of patience.

27 September 2018

Good winner yesterday for my subscribers, Madkhal 6:45 Wolverhampton was advised at 9/4, he was heavily backed into even money, running out a ready winner in the hands of Jason Watson.  Hopeful the good luck can continue.

Some good racing today.  Newmarket has its first day of a three day meeting,  lots of competitive races, the best race is the 3:35 , the Tattersalls Stakes, a Group 3 for two year olds.  Prince Eiji looked decent when winning on debut, he looks to have a good chance today.

A good card at Pontefract as well with a couple of good two year old races.  I just saw the first race, a 100/1 winner ! A couple I like in later races.  At least the ground has stayed decent,  it looks an ok forecast so hopefully no rain on the horizon.

More later.

26 September 2018

Yesterday was a day for favourites getting turned over ! I lost count of the ones that got beat, great if you were laying them.  Looking at the racing today there are a few short priced ones again that may get beat.  I am not a great fan of laying, but i think when you are, you need at least two strong dangers, and don’t lay at over 2/1, or it can be expensive !

One stable to follow over the next few weeks is Owen Burrows, he had 3 winners yesterday.  Up to then he has had a quiet season, but trains a lot of Hamdan Al Maktoum horses, so quality types, that must of had something wrong in the earlier part of the year, as he was not running many.

It was sad to read that Sam Morsehead has died of cancer, he was only 63.  I didn’t really know him very well, but he was a good jockey, having rode over 400 winners.  I know he was a nice guy, and had been clerk of the course at Perth for a number of years, before having to stop in 2015, due to his health.

25 September 2018

Another nice winner for my subscribers yesterday.  I advised backing Turgenev (7:00 Mewcastle) at 10/11 on Sunday evening, he was heavily backed into 8/15 !  He bolted up by 6 Lengths,  I always think any winner is a good price, at 10/11 he was good value.

September is currently over 11 points (£1100) in profit, not bad for a £50 monthly subscription!

Todays racing post has headlines,  that Gimcrack winner Emaraaty Ana has been sold to Sheikh Obaid Al Maktoum, for what price is not mentioned, he will be going for the Middle Park Stakes on Saturday.  He is top rated, and goes for the Group 1 with a good chance.  A couple of unbeaten colts he will be taking on though are Ten Kingdoms and Josh, both have looked really good, so it looks like it will be a good race.

The racing today looks competitive,  the Jump Meeting at Warwick has a couple of really short priced favourites in the first two races.  Both are trained by Nicky Henderson, trying to find what can beat them looks difficult.  At Lingfield on the all weather surface,  I hope Swordbill (3:10) can win his fourth race in 10 days, he has leading apprentice Jason Watson riding, taking a valuable 3lb off his back will help, as he has a 12lb penalty.
