20 October 2018

Really strong fields at Ascot today.  It could be a good day for trainer John Gosden , he has 4 horses with big chances.  Roaring Lion drops back to a mile for the Group 1 Queen Elizabeth 11 Stakes at 3:15, he will be difficult to beat, although he is better over 10f, he probably doesn’t want the ground as soft as it is, so I am willing to watch it ! I mentioned yesterday about Cracksman, he has his ground, it just depends on what frame of mind he is in. So if having a bet at Ascot, look for one that has proven form on the soft,  Addeybb has had ran only three times this season, he needs some give underfoot, he is my each way selection in the 3:15, he is around 8/1 with some firms.  Hopefully he can be in the mix, it will be very hard work for them all.

More later.

19 October 2018

Late post today.  Just been very busy most of the day, did not see much racing.

Few races left at Newcastle and Dundalk this evening.  I am not too interested in Dundalk,  Newcastle last races look difficult as well.  Looking ahead to racing tomorrow,  Cracksman runs at Ascot tomorrow, he has got his ground, likes the track and won the race last year.  If he has his race head on, he will win, but backing him before you see how he is going to behave before the off  ! I am not keen, he has blinkers on for the first time, that is a bit of a concern to me, it looks as though he is  thinking a bit too much.

At 5/6 you really want a lot of boxes ticked, he has the most talent of the field, but watch his behaviour if you are interested in backing him.

I will try and find an each way bet tomorrow, my luck at the moment is bumpy ! So small stakes until it changes.

18 October 2018

Couple of meetings this evening at Chelmsford and Wolverhampton.  I did like the look of Gentle Look 5.45, he ran well last time.  His danger is Murray River, who could well be a bit of a thinker ! If he puts his best foot forward, he is a big threat.

Looking towards the weekend.  Cracksman may well get his ground conditions on Saturday at Ascot, if he is focused on the race, he will be very tough to beat.

More Later.

17 October 2018

Late post today. ImFancied Midnight Shadow in the 5:25’at Wetherby, two small jumping errors over the last two flights cost him,  he ran a good second , only beaten a neck ! But hitting the woodwork a bit too much at the moment,

Some all weather racing at Newcastle this evening.  It looks a difficult card.  I do think they are open races.   It is hard work, particularly on races run on the straight track, the completion of the race on the all weather surface changes so much, horses tend to need stamina for a bit further than their usual best trip. The latter furlong of Newcastle changes so much.  I just saw an 80/1 shot get up in the shadows of the post to beat the hot favourite Drogon.

Pleased to get a winner yesterday for my subscribers, October has been difficult so far.  Aplomb 2:35 Yarmouth was advised at 2/1, he got the job done from a promising newcomer.  Today looks pretty tough, some nice types running at Leicester.  Saeed Bin Suroor has good chances in both two year old races at 2:00 and 3:35, although both races will not be easy to win.

If Shady McCoy gets the run of things 3:05, he will be difficult to beat, he ran a very good third last time, in a more competitive handicap at Ascot.  He also has Ryan Moore on top, who rides this horse well.

Some good racing at Huntingdon and Hereford over jumps, Nylon Speed was a good winner last time at Warwick.  He could get favourite backers off to a good start in the first at Huntingdon.

Some racing again tonight at Kempton, couple of races I am interested in.  It does look a night of open races.  The best race of the night is the 8:15, Blue Mist and Ledham are course and distance winners, both have major chances tonight after wins on their latest starts.

15 October 2018

Racing at Windsor today has been abandoned. Heavy rain causing the track to become unsafe.  At Yarmouth the ground is good to soft, always a few good two year old races at the track.  Turjomaan looked very nice when winning at Ascot, he will be hoping to defy a penalty in the 3:00.  It may well have a few decent types in this, who are not yet exposed, interesting race. In Scotland the Mussleburgh card looks difficult. Tarboosh 3:50 has been in great form of late, he will be hoping to make it 4-5 in the Conditions Sprint over 5f.

I think Richard Kingscote is on 99 winners for the year at the moment, and will be looking to get his 100 as soon as possible, I am not sure he is riding today.  But a really good achievement, he is one of the best jockeys riding in my opinion.

14 October 2018

Impressive win by Too Darn Hot yesterday in the Dewhurst Stakes.  He looks to be a very smart colt, he will be aimed at next years 2,000 Guineas at the same track.

Looking at today’s racing, a fair amount of rain forecast, so cautious betting on ground that could change throughout the day.

I did just see the last 10 minutes of Luck on Sunday on Racing UK this morning.  Former top Jump jockey Graham Bradley was talking about trying to get back involved in racing, he wants to get back to buying and selling horses. Which he did when he stopped riding.   I hope he gets a bit of luck, he admits he made a few mistakes when he was a jockey, which ended up with a long ban.  But he was a very talented rider, and he is a really nice person. Hopefully he gets a bit of good fortune.

13 October 2018

Dry conditions at Newmarket today, the wind wil dry the track more through the day.  Some really nice horses on show.  The 3:00 is the Group 1 Darley Dewhurst Stakes, Too Darn Hot has looked very good in two wins, he will start as favourite.  I would not be backing against him.  Some good racing at York as well.  I do think Constant has a good chance of getting ridden prominently and being hard to catch in the 2:40, he will be helped by a tail wind at the track today.  The jump season really starts now, today’s Chepstow card is always seen as when the bigger yards start running more of their better horses.  Good fields for some good prize money.  Master  Tommytucker 3:05 looked very useful last season, he would appreciate a bit of rain, but could make a good start to his 18/19 season.

I hope Daniel Muscot recovers from his horror fall on Thursday evening at Chelmsford.  His horse clipped heels , causing his mount to have a heavy fall, it was a shame for George Peckham and connections, as his horse was fatally injured in the fall.

12 October 2018

Some good racing today at Newmarket.  The main race is the 3:35 bet365 Fillies Mile for two year olds..  It looks a quite open race, anyone of 4 could win it for me.  Hermosa is the probably more favoured than Zagitova of the Ballydoyle fillies, she won her Group 3 last time, although Zagitova is not one to ignore, of the English trained fillies, Antonia De Vega is 2-2 and looks to be progressing, she and both Shambolic are unbeaten in two starts, Pretty Pollyanna would likely be favourite if not putting a below par run last time, she may possibly be better when the sun is shining! It is a race to watch for me, too close to call.

I do like Astronomer 4:10,  as a horse, he looks very useful, but he has a lot of weight today, and conceding 20lb to Baritone will be hard, Rock Eagle is another that gets 14lb from the top weight, it is a difficult race to access the outcome.

I am interested in a couple of horses at York, some really big fields for some of the handicap races, races to avoid for me.  The 3:50 stayers race looks really competitive,  Almoghared could have each way claims, he was below par on his latest run, but looked useful before that tame effort, it is a pretty open handicap.

11 October 2018

Rain across parts of the UK , so little bit of caution.  Worcester which has ground described as good, kicks off with a mares Novice chase, Kalahari Queen has probably  the best hurdle race form, she looks the one they all have to beat.  Quite small fields at Bangor-on -Dee, with some tricky races, Melekhov runs for the first time over obstacles in the 1:45, he had good bumper form, possibly better on softer ground than good, not sure how much rain will arrive.  Ayr has a flat card, soft heavy ground will be testing for the horses, so a need to handle deep ground is a must.

At the yearling sales yesterday another colt made 3:5 million, by Dubawi he was bought by one of the Qatar Sheikhs.  Not sure where he will go into training, his brother Too Darn Hot runs in the Group 1 Dewhurst Stakes on Saturday, if he wins it may be a large, but good investment.
