This horse is a course and distance winner. It  looks as though connections have found another good race to follow up, he needs no downpour of rain,  which may happen,currently the ground is ideal.  I will keep an eye on the weather before having a bet. I think he will be ridden close to the pace, and his jockey knows him well.

Possible main threat is Whatzdjazz, although her last run was below par, she needs to perform better today to beat my selection.

Had a good evening last night at the races in Jersey.  The weather was good and lots of people enjoying themselves, really nice setting for a racecourse.

I think this horse has a great chance today, big danger I think is Barney Roy. It will be good race to watch, I just think Cliffs of Moher has been primed for this race, his master trainer has many horses he could of ran today, but this is his first choice. Ryan Moore knows the horse well, unlike Eminent, who has a new rider, not sure about that change as Jim Crowley has given this horse some fine rides in top races.

I am going racing tonight in Jersey.  It is the Champion Hurdle at Les Landes racecourse tonight, not large field as only 4 runners !

Toretto runs in the last race, I’ve been riding him out for local trainer here in Guernsey, Jan Coomer, we hope he will run better than last time, but to be fair to the horse it was over 1m.  Today his race is over 1m 4f, much more suitable.  This horse is a real old character, he is fitter than he was last time,  he is an old gentleman and pleasure to ride at home. Fingers crossed for a good show!

Race Analysis as follows:

This horse was strongly fancied on his debut, he started slowly that day, but ran a good race to finish second.  He should progress to win today,he has a couple of decent rivals to beat,his trainer Hugo Palmer’s horses have hit form recently, after a fairly quiet start to the season.

Race: 2:40 Perth

Current Odds: 7/4

This horse acts at Perth, likes decent ground, which it is at Perth today.  Only 4 in his race, so hopefully his regular rider Craig  Nichol can pop out in front and get some of his rivals to make an error or two, as they have not that much fencing experience.  The best of their form has been over the smaller obstacles.

Update:

Nothing solid today, so no bet for me.

I will post an update around 4:30pm. I was quite keen on a couple of horses at Hamilton today but the ground has changed to good to soft, (soft, in places) so I am watching them run.

Race Analysis:

This horse was upped in class last time, he ran in a 0-85 Handicap, a big step up from his win over 1m 6f when winning at Redcar in a maiden handicap.  The race today is 0-70, with a few horses running who look to me as the trainers are trying to find an ideal trip for them.  Today’s race over a stiff 1m 4f should pose no problems to my selection, and at a decent price I am backing him each way.  A bit of rain should not inconvenience New Society, as long as it is not a deluge !

Race to watch:

A couple of horses running that look potentially useful prospects, slight concern is they have not ran for a while.  Valcartier looked very useful when winning his maiden in April, he runs today 2:40 Windsor, this horse could be well handicapped, and the 7/4 he is generally trading at, looks fair.  I will wait and see how the market goes, as a couple of his opponents are dangers, and I hope he may ease in price.

Ride of the weekend:

This has to go to Seamie Heffernan, for his ride yesterday on Capri in the Dubai Duty Free Irish Derby.  A very good race with the first three home passing the line together.  Capri rallied to win by a neck, after looking as though he would be passed by both Wings of Eagles and the late closer Cracksman, Seamie never looks flustered when riding, he is very cool.

Ryan Moore had the pick of the Ballydoyle horses in this Group 1 event, with Seamie riding what appeared to be the lesser fancied of Aiden O’Brians more fancied two in the betting, of his five runners in this race, Capri was given an excellent ride to win.  Seamie was seen at his best recently on Idaho when winning a Group 2 race at Ascot, and the Ballydoyle trainers praise was that Seamie is a world class jockey.  Once again the Ballydoyle band wagon rolls on.

Horse: Don’t Touch

Time: 2:25

Current Odds: 7/2

Analysis of the race as follows:

This horse has won on a Tapeta surface before, it was at Wolverhampton, but has proved he acts on the surface.  He is the highest rated horse in the race, and ran well in Ireland last time over 7f.

The majority of his opponents have yet to prove themselves on an all weather surface, so at 7/2 , I see a bit of value.  Tony Hamilton knows the horse well, he has won on him numerous times before, so that is a plus. I am playing smaller than normal today,  as all weather racing I find slightly more difficult !

Cautious betting on grass at the moment advised, as the rain over the last few days has caused some big priced winners, and they are the most difficult to find!

I do fancy Wings Of Eagles in the Irish Derby today, but the ground is a concern, so I will go smaller with my bet, if backing him, I will watch a few races at the Curragh. And try and assess how soft the ground is, as the Derby is not until 5:20.

Update:

I am not putting a tip up today. The rain, widespread across the country is my concern.  Firnas was the horse I was interested in 8:30 Newmarket, I may have a small interest bet in play, as this horse was fancied last time he ran, he was too fresh that day and tired in the closing stages, he has ran on good to soft ground before, so current going at Newmarket, which is described as good to soft, should be OK.

I advise to half  your bets when not sure that the ground is ideal, especially when backing something you think will win.
