A good winner for my subscribers yesterday, Selwan 12.25 Nancy (France) was advised at 5/2 yesterday morning. He was returned at 2/1, scoring cosily.

Today has some good racing, with three jump meetings at Kelso, Fontwell and Newton Abbot and the first day of the May meeting of Chester, also racing at Kempton and Gowran Park in Ireland, all on the flat.

At Newton Abbot, Seddon jumped really well when he tried fences for the first time, when rallying from the last fence, to get back up to win over this track, so he is proven over the sharp track, he goes at 4.00, and will be hard to beat.

At Chester 2.40, Above The Curve runs in a decent fillies trial for the Epsom Oaks. She was a decent winner last time, and with improvement she could be too good for her rivals, although Night Battle and Hello Jumeirah will not make easy for her, both won on debut, and look useful prospects.

Today see’s the first three year old colts Classic at Newmarket. The Qipco 2,000 Guineas at 3.40, run over the straight mile. Native Trail is the current 5/4 favourite, he was impressive in winning his trial, over course and distance recently, and has a decent draw in 15, I would expect most of the field to end up on the stands rail. So he should get a marginal advantage being drawn on the stands side. His likely biggest concern is the ground, as he would prefer to get his toe in the the turf, but I would not back against him because it is quicker than ideal. Of the rest of the field, Point Lonsdale could run well at around 10/1 with a lot of bookmakers, he is well drawn, and has Frankie Dettori on top, as stable jockey Ryan Moore rides Luxembourg, who is more fancied in the betting market at around 6/1. It is a very competitive race, hopefully we will get a guide from it to the next Classic for the colts, the Derby in June, as this is always said to be the best trial for the Epsom race.

At the other meetings Moktasaab 3.16 Goodwood was a good winner last time, if he settles a bit better today, he is capable of defying his 7lb rise in the weights for his win at Newbury.

Good racing from Newmarket today, although very small fields. The first race is over the minimum trip of 5 furlongs. Dramatised heads the betting, she has a speedy pedigree, and is sure to be well tuned for her debut. However Malrescia also has a good pedigree, and at around 5/1, she is worth a bet each way.

I like Gubbass 2.25, he was staying on well in a good race last time, this race may be ran at a strong pace, as Noble Truth is keen in his races, so hopefully he might set the race up for a closer from off the pace, I expect Ryan Moore to give his mount a chance in the early stages, and be staying on well on the rise to the winning post.

Looking at todays racing, with 5 meetings in the UK. Lots of races to go through, the flat turf season is almost a month old, so the form is beginning to get a little bit clearer, as a large number of runners have had a run on the grass already. At Windsor this evening, the 7.25 is a maiden for three year olds and upwards, over 10 furlongs. Aerospace and Cosmic Desert head the betting market, both owned by Godolphin, but trained by two different trainers. It looks a toss of a coin between them both. With a slight preference for the latter, if I was to choose.

At Southwell on the all weather, Lady Clementine heads the betting in the 3.40, she has been running well and although not well drawn in 10, she has a good chance of winning, her likely main rival could be White Wolf, who is also poorly drawn in 13. The latter has yet to see a racecourse, but I have heard he has shown enough in his work at home, to run a big race on debut.

With a lot of racing already underway. A couple of strong favourites beaten at Aintree already, Edwardstone was a fair second in the 3.00, beaten at 8/13 by the trailblazing front runner Gentleman De Mee. And – Flooring Porter also a short priced favourite in the 3.35 race was beaten into second place, after making most of the running, he was collared going to the final flight by Sir Du Berlais, both winners ridden by Mark Walsh, who is a regular rider for winning owner JP Mcmanus.

Typical of two hot favourites, who won at Cheltenham, and then come to Aintree and do not quite run up to the same form.

At 5.15 the main race is the Grand National, backing the winner looks as difficult as ever. I have had two interest each way bets, Delta Work at 14/1 and Fiddlerontheroof at 12/1. I hope they can give me a run for my money. At the other meetings, Tigerbythetail 4.22 Bangor has been running fairly well, this looks a good opportunity for him to get his head in front, he has Fergus Gregory to guide him, and this young jockey rides well, so no excuses today.

Another good day yesterday for my subscribers. i advised Rozgar 2:35 Chantilly at 6/5, who won cosily under Christophe Soumillon.

Today at Aintree I like Jonbon 2:20, he ran a very good race last time at Cheltenham when second to a very good horse. Todays race is much easier, and if none the worse he can win.

Bravemansgame 2:55 would be my choice as well, he missed the festival and this slick jumper has ground which looks likely to be in his favour, as its drying out, which he likes.

Looking at the 4:05 Randox Topham Handicap chase over the Grand National fences, Fantastic Lady with 10.2 on her back is my idea each way at around 14/1, she jumps well and is honest.

A good winner yesterday for my subscribers. Orrisdale 2:10 Hereford was advised yesterday at 13/8, he made most of the running, as predicted, staying on well to getting the better of his main rival Neville’s Cross.

Today sees two meetings from Windsor and Redcar on the level, with Kelso over jumps. I like Doyen Du Bar in the 5.15 Kelso. He has been absent for over a year, so improvement can be expected for his run today, but he was impressive on his debut last year, so he could take a lot of beating.

On the level, Primrose Ridge 1:00 Redcar looks a penalty kick. She was a good second last time , when a recent winner was third that day. She should get the job done for Jason Watson.

18 March 2022

Final day of the Cheltenham festival. Vauban 1.30 has looked a very good horse, he was beaten by his rival today Pied Piper on his hurdle debut, not beaten far. I think the race could be between them today, but do think Vauban might well get his revenge. At 2.50 Ginto lines up, he has won well on his three tries over hurdles in Ireland, he has a good chance of winning today, in what is a very competitive field.
The ground has been drying out , so should be good to soft, ideal jumping ground for everyone.

13 March 2022

A good winner advised yesterday for my subscribers. He’s A Latchico 1.46 Lingfield was advised at 11/8 yesterday morning, well ridden by Rhys Clutterbuck who is good value for his 3lb claim.

Today at Compeigne, Influx 11.35 should prove too classy for his rivals, although the trip is a tad on the short side, he has the best jockey on top and runs here for a new stable today, he has also been gelded since his last run in June 2021.
I thought the UK cards were pretty tough to find winners, although a few i like.

7 March 2022

Already 3 races down at Marseille today. All three have gone to horses under Christophe Soumillion. He is riding very well, with an excellent strike rate. I did like the look of Jaafar in the 12.25 race at the track, he was unlucky last time, and if he gets a better ride today, he has a strong chance of winning.

Looking at the UK meetings, favourite backers should get off to a decent start at Wetherby, the 1.45 is an ideal chance for Our Bill’s Aunt to do the business. Slow ground at the Yorkshire track, although I do not think that will inconvenience the favourite.
