Hopefully my followers backed Savvy Knight yesterday at Bath, he managed to get the “bob of the head “ on the line, I was a bit surprised he drifted out to 11/10, but the horse he beat has solid form in National Hunt flat races, having won two races and running a decent 7th in the Champion Bumper at the Cheltenham festival. So under a penalty, it was a good effort for a three year old.
Looking at todays racing, El Bodegon 3.35 York, has his first run of the year, in what is always classed as a strong trial and good guide for the Epsom Derby, this race looks to have a few that could head to Epsom, with good runs needed today, if they are to head in that direction, with a chance of winning. For me El Bodegon has by far the best form, he has won a Group 3 and a Group 1 in France at 2. The ground at York should pose no issues, he won on soft ground last year, but todays good ground should be fine, a good horse will go on any ground, but obviously they have a preference to be at their best. His likely main threats are Desert Crown and Royal Patronage, with the latter having run a reasonable race in the 2,000 Guineas recently. Desert Crown was impressive in his only race at two, when winning easily, he could be a very useful horse, but he didn’t beat much that day, and may lack a bit of experience.
Anyone looking for a couple of winners in France today, Fantastic Spirit 11.45 and Maelek 12.50 Tarbes are horses I like the look of, both are short odds, but should be hard to beat.
More soon.
