31 July 2019

I hope followers backed all three of my horses advised yesterday. I did manage to double and treble them, so a good day all round.

Final day of July, Goodwood looks a really warm clear day.  With Too Darn Hot lining up at 3.35 in the Qatar Sussex Stakes (Group 1), hoping to keep the fantastic form of trainer/jockey combination of John Gosden and Frankie Dettori.

He is short odds favourite to win this big prize.  With the sharper track likely to play to his strengths, I would not look elsewhere than him.   Pace is likely to be strong, and as this son of Dubawi tends to race keenly, it could work out ideally for him.

A few horses that I follow line up in later races.  It is drizzling with rain at Perth at the moment, so I will keep a close eye on that.  The majority of horses entered at the track are likely racing as the ground was described as “good” this morning.

Just watching the Racing Tv channel.  James Willoughby has just been making a valid point about race times being important, I agree that they are.  Willoughby was making a point about Visinari , who runs at 2.25 Goodwood.  When this horse won on his debut, he clocked a very fast time.  Made favourite for his next run at Newmarket, which was a step up in grade, some people were disappointed to see him finish third that day, but he was beaten only a short head and a head, so it was a good run.  What I will say about this horse is, when he won on his debut, I was at the races.  On looking at him in the paddock,  before the race, I marked him down as tall, leggy and still unfurnished.  So I was a bit surprised to see him clock such a fast time, and win so easily.  I think that he is a good horse, but still weak, and will not be surprised if he gets beat again today.  It’s a hot race, and a few rivals, could well be a bit more mature, than Visinari is, at the moment.

On to the other races.  At Perth 6.15, Nietzsche has an excellent chance of winning again, a previous winner at the track, he has found another good opportunity.

At Yarmouth this afternoon, Royal Residence 4.00 has a decent chance of upsetting the favourite Majaalis.  If any rain arrives, it will help the James Tate trained colt.  At Galway in Ireland, Fast Buck will be hard to beat at 5.20.

Pleased to get another winner yesterday for my subscribers.  My only advised bet was Joyful Mission 5.05 Pontefract, nice to get the 13/8 in the morning.  Heavily backed into 4/5, the Danny Tudhope ridden horse, never looked in danger, making all the running for an easy 5 Lengths victory.

I hope to keep the good run going today, I like one horse in a later race.  Looking at the rest of today’s cards, rain and showers are forecast, so a bit of caution if taking an early price on something.  If it stays dry at Newton Abbot, the 4.45 looks a competitive race, even though only five line up.  Samson is favourite, having won easily last time at Worcester 26 days ago. Dr Richard Newland bought this horse for only £6000.00 back in December, the Dr has a good track record of improving horses, and the way this gelding won last time, he has a strong chance of defying his 10lb raise in the handicap, although it will not be easy.   As You Like is honest and has ran well at this tight track, he wants genuine good or good to firm conditions to be at his best, so rain will not be any use to his chances.  But if it stays dry, he is a real threat. Royal Magic, tends to make mistakes, and fell on his last run, prior to that he won easily at Southwell, but was not foot perfect that day, so is a bit risky !

Windsor evening meeting has had a bit of rain, on ground that has been watered.  So it could ride a bit false, I think I will watch a race or two, and see how the times are, and how it looks to be riding, before maybe having an investment.

Good winner again for my subscribers yesterday.  Triple Distilled was advised at 3/1 yesterday morning.  Getting up to win in the shadows of the post, to get the verdict by a neck in the 5.25 York.  I have backed this improving gelding the last three times he has ran.  He should of won all three, the Newmarket race when he was third, was what I think was a very strange ride!

Reflecting on Enable yesterday, she is one of the best I’ve seen, so honest and brave.  Hopefully she will come out of the gruelling race ok, Crystal Ocean really tried his heart out to beat her, but was just not good enough, hopefully both of these top class performers may well meet again in October in the Prix D’Arc De Triomphe.

Hopefully I can keep the decent run going for my subscribers today, about 9 of the last 12 advised bets have been successful. I like a couple of horses entered today.

27 July 2019

A late post today.  Having seen Enable win the King George V1 and Queen Elizabeth Qipco Stakes (Group 1) at Ascot, for the second time, which was a really game and gutsy performance.

She was ridden patiently by Frankie Dettori, who from a wide draw, found himself with a lot of jockeys, on his inside quite rightly not giving him an inch !

But the great mare responded well when asked to go and win her race just inside the two furlong from home marker.  For a few strides, she looked in danger of getting beat.  Crystal Ocean, who was given a really good ride by James Doyle, had every chance in the home straight, he simply was just not good enough, but it was a good effort to finish second, to such a good mare.

Looking at the remaining races today.  With the rain having arrived earlier today at Ascot, the ground is probably riding good to soft.  Lariat 5.20 has been running consistently all season.  This colt does not mind some ease in the ground, and after four seconds, he deserves to get his head in front.   He would be my choice, if I was having a bet.

A couple of horses I like are running today in later races, hopefully I have picked  the right one for my subscribers, with the rain we have had, I have played small stakes only.

More tomorrow.

26 July 2019

A good winning bet yesterday for my subscribers.  I advised backing Starfighter (without the favourite) 3.40 at Yarmouth, he was Evens with most firms, so another good day of profit.

Good racing from most of today’s meetings.  A fair amount of rain is falling at Thirsk.  If the rain persists, it will likely change to good/good to soft in places.  We do need rain, as the heatwave this week, dries the ground quickly.  Hopefully the ground at Newmarket tonight will stay the same as currently good to firm, the July racecourse is well maintained, with a lush covering of grass, it is safe ground.  I do think Passion And Glory will win the 7.40.  A good second on debut, beaten that day by Away He Goes, who renews rivalry tonight, with a run under his belt Passion And Glory also gets 6lb from Away He Goes today, which sways it in his favour.  Adonijah was an expensive yearling, he also could well be useful, so it looks a decent Novice Stakes race.

I have advised one tonight for my subscribers at York.  Hopefully it can get the job done.  A few nice horses line up at Newmarket this evening, two or three are horses I follow.  I was just looking at the weather forecast, showers are forecast, so I will wait and see what happens weather wise.

Another good winner for my subscribers yesterday.  I advised backing Volcanic Sky 7.15 Leicester at 15/8.  A cosy winner by just under 3 lengths.

With warm weather today, the final two races have been abandoned due to heat at Southwell.  The 2.50 at Sandown has just finished, the riders on the horses that made the early running, went far too fast in the first mile of the race, setting the race up for the two that sat at the rear of the field.  Tom Marquand On Just Hubert passed the line in front, about half a length in front of Buckman Tavern.  I think the winner,  Just Hubert could lose the race, he veered left inside the last furlong, badly impeding the second passed the post.  The stewards are currently looking at the finish. But you never know with stewards, they are so inconsistent with decisions.  I have said for many years, professional stewards are needed.  Former jockeys do the role of stewards secretaries, but the stewards are not former jockeys, which makes no sense to me !

I thought  today’s cards were pretty tough to solve, tight races.  I did think Mrs Discome had a solid chance in the 4.45 Yarmouth.  She did little wrong last time at Newmarket, a big filly, she should keep progressing.  Her chief rival looks like the current favourite Lady Bowthorpe, who ran with a lot of promise last year, she looked a big filly, who will only get better with time to fill her big frame.

More later.

23 July 2019

A good winner advised for followers yesterday.  Lady Lawyer 7.20 Chelmsford, given a really good ride by Frankie Dettori, rallied when headed inside the last furlong, to get the head bob on the line.  A nose victory, not many jockeys would of been able to galvanise their mounts like the little Italian did.  He is riding with supreme confidence at the moment.

On to today’s race meetings.  At Bath, course winner on two previous visit’s to the track Heritage, will like the fast ground, she goes in the 4.00, and will take a bit of beating again. I thought Motawaj would win again at Sandown 8.10.  The Dubawi gelding won well on the all weather at Kempton last time, with form on the turf, he looks an improving type.  Likely danger could be Masked Identity, who ran really well at Ascot last time, when a solid second.

More later.

23 July 2019

A late post today.  Good winner yesterday for my subscribers.  Dubai Future 8:20 Windsor, was advised early in the morning at 11/2.  Well supported in the betting market, the son of Dubawi finished up as 3/1 favourite.  A 15p deduction in the pound, due to his stable companion Reaction Time(who I advised each way at 16/1) rearing over in the stalls, keep an eye out for this horse.  He was the gamble of the day, joint favourite at 3/1, before his poor behaviour, which inevitably saw his withdrawal.

A few races left at Chelmsford this evening.  I do think Lady Lawyer could well upset the favourite Fiery Mission in the 7.20.  She has a penalty, looking at her pedigree and form, strongly suggests she will prefer the synthetic surface, already a winner at Kempton on the all weather, she then ran a solid second on turf.  It is hard for fillies against the colts and geldings, but I am tempted to back her at around 9/4 with most firms.

More tomorrow.

22 July 2019

Yet another group race success for the jockey of the moment Frankie Dettori yesterday.  Riding for Simon Crisford, who was associated with Frankie for many years when Simon was racing manager for Godolphin.  Simon is still a key figure with the Maktoum family.  I guess it was an even sweeter victory at Deauville yesterday, as the Darley Prix Robert Papin (Group 2) is sponsored by the Arab family.  A’Ali was ridden with finesse by Dettori, who produced the son of Society Rock well inside the final furlong, to win a shade cosily.  The 5 Furlong 110 yards was right up A’Ali’s street.  He could improve to win a Group 1 over 5f or 6f, as I see it.  It will interesting to see where he goes next.

With drying conditions today.  The ground at Cartmel is soft at the moment, sunny conditions at the track, so it will be good to see the time of the first race, just to get a guide on what the actual going is.  Coillte Eile has had two runs for Dr Richard Newland.  Both were decent efforts.  Up 6 Lbs for his win at Aintree, which was on good to soft ground, was a good performance.  This looks a decent opportunity to get her head in front again, she has a few course and distance winners to beat today, plus Point N Shoot from the Nigel Hawke yard, who bounced back to form last month at Fontwell. Currently no televised pictures from the Ayr meeting, not sure exactly what the problem is.

Quite a good card at Windsor tonight.  A couple of horses are running who I follow.  Hopefully I may be able to find a winner.
