Good winner today with Volatile winning easily by 8l at Southwell, he was backed from 7/4-11/8, although he did touch 2/1 through the day.  I am putting a selection on tonight for tomorrow, it is on the all weather, so no ground changes .

Current Odds: 11/8

Currently his price is lowering, he has won at Lingfield over 7f, tomorrow he races over 1 mile, which should not be a problem.  He is top rated, and possibly has scope to keep improving.  He will take all the beating in this, although Bungee Jump is weighted favourably to be a danger, I’m just not totally convinced she will be as good over 1 mile as she has been when winning over shorter. Breakfast ran well last time, he has to take a big step forward to beat Carouse giving him 3lb.

A good winner last night at Wolverhampton.  Star Archer 7/4 was a cosy winner, nice profit on the day.

Horse: Volatile

Time: 4:30 Southwell

In what looks a novice stakes that will not take a lot of winning, Volatile has the best form, on show.  He races for the first time on Fibresand, but his style of racing should suit , and he is a big strong horse who should handle conditions.  His jockey knows him well and he has won over 6f.  Of rivals, Light Laughter has ran over various trips, she faded late over 7f last time, she is slightly favoured at the weights as she has a claimer taking 7lb off her back, plus she has yet to win so has no penalty. Essential is a winner over 7f on the track, so he handles the surface, the drop in trip should be ok but is rated 19lb inferior to Volatile, he needs a big step forward to beat Volatile and Light Laughter, the others are unexposed, so hard to evaluate.

Racing currently going ahead at all three tracks today. Couple of short priced horses that should have no problem in winning today, I may put them in doubles and trebles.

My selection Passing Clouds is around 15/2 with firms, he runs 5.40 Wolverhampton.  I think each way he has solid claims, Iconic Sunset is the one they all have to beat in the race, as I see it.

A course and distance winner last month, this horse has been given a bit of time as his win was after over a year off the track.  He is clearly fragile, but talented.  He can make use of the weight he receives from the majority of rivals today, hopefully he will relax a bit better today, he was a shade keen when winning, but in this better race, with more pace expected he can finish his race off well to win.  Of rivals, Mount Tahan has solid course form, he is a late closer usually, and is dangerous.  Pactolus is another with useful form, he rarely runs a bad race.

Nice winner today with Grand Morning  obliging, he returned at 4/5, and although he only won a neck, I think he is a horse to follow.  He handles winter ground, so could well win again, he can’t get too much weight rise from the handicapper.

I am putting my tip up for tomorrow, as it is on the all weather, so ground changes are not a major concern.  Looking at the snow at Ayr, racing may have problems tomorrow with meetings going ahead.

Horse: Passing Clouds

Time: 5.40 Wolverhampton

Current Odds:7/1 EW

I am backing this horse each way, he is around 7/1 with most firms.  He has ran well on the all weather this winter, he will appreciate the extra furlong and a half tomorrow, his run at Kempton last time was a solid effort.  He rallied well, after looking as though he was going to drop out, and was doing good work at the finish, that was over 1 mile. His rider knows him, and he is well drawn.  I think he can be right in the mix of his current rating.  Of rivals, Illusional has ability, he was a bit below par on his last run, he has had a break,  and could be dangerous, although he has been running over 6f and 7f, so not totally sure if he will thrive over the trip.  Iconic Sunset is the biggest threat I think, he should have no stamina issues, he has not raced for 104 days, but don’t think that is a negative.  Battle Lines is another to consider with a chance, he beat Passing Clouds in a maiden, although I think Passing Clouds didn’t perform that day to his best, he is stable mate of Iconic Sunset.

I will do an update tomorrow as a couple of other horses running that could be worth a bet.

Good winner yesterday, Fearsome backed at 5/2 without the fav, was a winner.  I did actually back him outright when he drifted to 7/1 as an outright winner, he did well to win as he came from last to first. A good profit on the day, my other selection last night Acker Bilk was a decent second, just not good enough.

I think it could be a day for short odds winners at Ayr. This horse won a novice at the track on heavy ground recently.  He jumped better as the race went on, Derek Fox rides again today so he knows him well, he is lightly raced and can progress to win this.  Of rivals the Irish horse Cubomania could be the biggest threat, he was below par last time, not sure he is good enough to beat Grand Morning.

Nice winner yesterday with Thebannerkingrebel obliging, backed from 11/10-10/11, he is a smart horse, gave a small profit on the day with Carolinae finishing second, beaten by a better horse on the day.

Good to see Altior returns at Newbury today 3:00, he has had wind surgery, this is his prep race before the Cheltenham festival, it will be good to see how he gets on.

I am backing this horse without the fav(Boychick) He was a game winner last time at the track, beating a horse that won next time.  He made the running that day, and with the same rider again today, he will be hard to beat.  Of rivals, Boychick is very honest and keeps winning or being second, he is a real all weather specialist, and if he beats Fearsome, we still have a winner,   Ravenous ran well last time, I’m not convinced he is the most honest, Barye is one that has dropped in the weights, if he recaptures his best form of 2016 he is thrown in at the weights.

Horse: Acker Bilk

Time: 8:15 Wolverhampton

Current Odds: 5/2

I backed this horse last time, possibly the Southwell surface did not play to his strengths, or it was too soon after his win 5 days before.  He has had a break, and comes here with a good chance of winning, his rider claims a handy 3lb off his back and he is a course and distance winner.  Of rivals, Reckless Wave has good form, coming off a 226 day lay off is not a major concern, but I’m sure she will come on for it, she has not been harshly treated with only 3lb rise for her win at Newbury.  Frown has a decent racing weight and in her first run in a handicap she is right in the mix.

I like the look of Thebannerkingrebel 4.55 Bangor, he is around 11/10. A very good winner last time at Warwick, this horse can win under a penalty.  Of rivals , Harambre looks the one to beat, he won well on his debut, and it was possibly an ok bumper, but my selection was very impressive on debut, even though it was possibly an average race, he was in a different league.

In a conditions race that looks pretty closely matched, my selection should get a nice pace to aim at.  She likes to be given a chance in her races and finish well.  Given a break after July, this will be her third run, she looks to be coming to hand and will be tough to beat.  Her jockey knows her well. Of rivals, Soul Silver ran a bit free last time, and didn’t get home, she is a threat, Courier likes Chelmsford and will likely make the running, she is dangerous if given a soft lead, hopefully Soul Silver may press her.

Late Update:

Nice winner with Henpecked winning at Newcastle, heavily backed from 5/2-6/4 , getting up to win in a photo, 10p deduction in the pound as late non runner.

I will watch the race I was looking at having a bet in later, more tomorrow.

There are a few horses I fancy today.  Seaton Spirit has slightly eased to 13/8 (without  fav) 3:25 Towcester, I bet best odds guaranteed, so not concerned.

Its one of them days when lots of horses I like the look of, sometimes it’s hard to pick the right one to back, as I won’t be backing all of them.  I will back Henpecked 4:20 Newcastle.  She doesn’t win that often, but has new headgear on today, likes the track and has a decent jockey riding, she is 5/2 at the moment.

Keep an eye out for a later update, as one horse in a late race is interesting, just looking at some information on the rivals.
